Standard welding wire.
Forging-level mechanical properties.
Meltio's Wire-LMD process runs on standard certified welding wire Ø 0.8–1.2 mm from any commercially available source. No vendor lock-in, no proprietary spools, no license fees. Twelve pre-validated Meltio materials with ready-to-use parameters in Horizon and Space — plus an open platform that brings third-party welding wires into production.
Four properties that set it apart from powder.
Process stability & safety
Wire feedstock eliminates powder handling. No ATEX zone, lower HSE risks, fast material changeovers without cleaning cycle.
99.9% densification
Fully dense components verified by CT scanning, equivalent to or better than cast and wrought standards.
Single, Dual & Quad wire
Combine different metals in one part. Automated wire-switching — ideal for cladding, hard-facing and bi-metallic joints.
Open platform
Print with Meltio-validated wire or with certified third-party commodity wire. No paid unlocking, no license fees.
Eleven validated alloys, with reproducible deposition rate on Blue 1.4 kW.
The rates below were measured on the Meltio Blue Laser (1.4 kW) using the standard hollow- or solid-bead profiles available as defaults in Meltio Horizon and Space. These figures form the basis for your business case — for a specific geometry, actual deposition shifts depending on wall thickness, cooling cycles and post-processing.
| Material | Max deposition · Blue 1.4 kW | Profile | Family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Titanium 64Ti-6Al-4V · Grade 5 | 0,56kg/h | Hollow 1P | Titanium |
| Nickel 625Ni-Cr-Mo · Inconel 625 | 0,77kg/h | Hollow 2P | Nickel |
| Nickel 718Ni-Cr-Fe · Inconel 718 | 0,83kg/h | Hollow 1P | Nickel |
| SS 308Fe-Cr-Ni · Austenitic | 0,85kg/h | Hollow 1P | Stainless |
| SS 316LFe-Cr-Ni-Mo · Marine grade | 0,85kg/h | Hollow 1P | Stainless |
| SS 17-4PHFe-Cr-Ni-Cu · Precipitation hardened | 0,83kg/h | Hollow 1P | Stainless |
| Mild steel ER70-SCarbon steel · Construction grade | 0,84kg/h | Hollow 1P | Carbon |
| Tool steel H11Cr-Mo-V · Hot-work tool steel | 0,76kg/h | Hollow 1P | Tool steel |
| Marine Bronze ErCuNiAlCu-Ni-Al · Nickel-aluminium bronze | 0,96kg/h | Hollow 1P | Bronze |
| CuCrZrCu-Cr-Zr · Conductive copper alloy | 0,65kg/h | Solid | Copper |

Deposition rates from the Meltio Materials Datasheets (v8 · Jan 2026), measured under standard Blue Laser 1.4 kW print conditions. Practical deposition depends on geometry, profile selection, cooling cycles and post-processing. For your specific part, we recommend a sample print or a DfAM assessment before machine acquisition.
Seven alloy families. Virtually every industrial application area.
Beyond the pre-validated Meltio portfolio, the Wire-LMD process has been successfully tested with a broad spectrum of third-party commodity welding wires. The families below cover virtually every industrial application area that runs on traditional welding or machining processes.
Stainless Steel & Duplex
All-round corrosion-resistant steels with good mechanical properties. Standard for process industry, marine, food processing. Super Duplex 2507 for extreme corrosion in offshore applications.
Nickel & high-performance alloys
Extreme temperature and corrosion resistance for aerospace, petrochemical and energy applications. Monel K500 for marine and propeller-shaft applications requiring superior mechanical and wear properties.
Titanium alloys
Ti-6Al-4V is the industry standard for aerospace and medical implants — high strength-to-weight ratio and biocompatibility. Ti 5553 for motorsport and defense applications requiring even higher mechanical properties.
Tool steels & Hardfacing
Hot-work tool steels for mold-making, injection inserts and die-casting. Stellite 6 and Haynes 25 for high-wear cladding on valves, pump components and gas-turbine parts. Cobalt-bearing welding wires require adapted extraction and PPE procedures.
Carbon & mild steels
Mild steel with sufficient mechanical strength and excellent ductility, easily welded and machined. Standard for structural parts, tooling frames and large near-net-shape geometries where material cost is decisive.
Copper & bronze alloys
CuCrZr for electrical and thermal conductivity — rocket combustion chambers, heat exchangers. Nickel-aluminum bronze for ship propellers and oil-recovery pumps. Silicon bronze as interlayer for bi-metallic joints.
Specialty & Low-CTE
Invar (FeNi36) for low-CTE applications in lithography, optical tooling and precision measurement instruments where dimensional stability across thermal cycles is critical. Aluminum 4046 for lightweight heat-dispersion components. Gold alloys for electronics and specialty applications.
The images show an illustrative rendering of typical wire-laser DED grain structures, in the style of a colour-etched micrograph, with coarser grains elongated in the build direction. They are not measurements.
